The prodigal Krency García was born in Cabrera on November 14, 1976. At 5 years of age he was already bringing out harmonious melodies from his father’s old accordion, performing for the first time on a little platform. Under Samuel García’s guidance, at 11 he formed the group with an obvious name, El Niño Prodigio (The Prodigal Son) to initiate Krency’s musical growth. At 15 he went off to New York with his father and some of his family. There he concluded high school, took voice lessons with the famous Colombian professor Vivan Ara and studied music at the Art School in Harlem.
He participated in the Omega Psi Phi Arts Festival in DC where he won first prize in every musical category. With his solid background as a musician and accordion player, Krency revolutionized merengue. By fusing traditional genres with modern rhythms, “El Prodigio y la Super Banda” found great popularity and managed to get a lot of young people interested in merengue. In 2004 Krency’s band brought together experienced jazz musicians to realize his project. |
