Was born in San Francisco de Marcoris on a November 10th. Her parents were Francisca Fernández and Mr. Abigail Pantaleón. A natural performer, she was unable to sing in her mother's womb avoiding frightening her. Raised in a traditional musical home, between the “bolero” and “son” genre.Most of her relatives have been musicians. Her mother possessed a lovely voice and since little Adalgisa sang beside her old tunes, including repertoire honoring her great-grandmother's Cuban origins. She also used to sing at school plays, at the Church and at every event celebrated in her hometown.
In 1971 she was selected to perform in the 1st National Voice Festival, organized by famed Dominican composer Rafael Solano, where she won third place. From that moment on her voice hasn't skipped a heartbeat. She has shared scenarios with well-known artists such as Raphael, Danny Rivera, Nestor Torres, Felo Bhor and most recently Mexican singer/songwriter Armando Manzanero. The feminine voice in the classic duet with Juan Luis “Como abeja al panal” and essential member of the 440 group. Here is the biography of one of the best solo artists of the Dominican Republic. Her international career has given her numerous awards: El Casandra, La Cotorra, El Gordo de la Semana and Lo Nuestro, including also achievements in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and other countries. One of the most memorable moments in her career was representing the Latin-American voice in the 4th World Conference for Women celebrated in Beijing, China. As the female lead chorus singer in the 440 group, which she joined in 1989, Adalgisa has toured along Juan Luis Guerra throughout the most important stages in Latin America, United States and Europe, achieving numerous awards like the Grammy in 1991. She made her debut as a comedian in the hit late night tv show “De Noche”. Later on she worked in other comedy shows like: “Con Cuquin” and “El Show de Roberto Salcedo”. In 1980 she worked the acting stage in a theater play called “Te Juro Juana que tengo ganas” under the direction of Jaime Lucero, followed by “Shampoo, rinse y anchoitas”, “La cuarentona”, “Caperucita Roja”, “Enriquillo”, “Cosas de papá y mamá” and “La sirvienta es peligrosa”. She wrote a poetry book in 1995 entitled “Mi silencio roto”, critically acclaimed by international Dominican author Juan Bosch, José Rafael Lantigua and Chiqui Vicioso. In 1997 the ACE Awards granted her Best Actress for her performance in the Dominican film “Nueba Yol III” along comedian Luisito Marti and director Angel Muñiz. " |
